For kicks I've been making these mockups in Photoshop to see how the rooms would look in various colors, including federal blue and horrifying orange:

The blue looks sort of like the sort of soft blue you'd use in a little boy's first bedroom...with pennants and baseball caps on the wall. Maybe a little brighter?

The orange on the wall next to the kitchen is pretty... eye-opening, but it looks great over the mantle.
